Last night I had a salad bar of thoughts on several articles I wanted to write about. I thank God for cultivating some ideas in that noggin of mine. Then I started to really think about my ideas. As someone who is still trying to not only learn how to put my site together technically and develop content, I have to at least think about where I am going with my site, and remember where I have been. I think I can, I think I can!
First off, I want to tell you all that in a mere 2 1/2 weeks I have figured out quite nicely how to navigate through my wordpress.com tool bar, and work with the design of my theme. Now with that said, I really only know the bare basics yet. There is so much to know that I find myself strapped with numerous questions on a daily basis. So, what’s a girl to do? I turn to my favorite buddy Google (I love you Google). Today’s piece of advice would be, “if you don’t know, Google it”!
I had been searching for information about niche blogging. For those of you that do not know what niche blogging is, it is basically selecting a narrow topic and writing about it. So for instance, if you love painting nails, maybe you would start a niche blog on all things nails. Or lets say you are a baseball fanatic, so you could create a site that focuses on that particular sport. There a tons of things you could create a niche blog on. However, the one question that I still have about niche blogging is, do you think that you would you get bored with writing from a limited content field?
Your passion for your niche topic would seem to be a very important factor in the success of niche blogging. For example, I love chocolate, I really do. I just don’t think I really want to eat chocolate everyday, and I know I don’t want to write about it everyday. However, I also love animals, and I think the topic of animals could easily be broadened to allow for more choice in writing content. With that said, how broad is too broad for a niche blog. Would all animals be too broad? Would all felines be too narrow?
Although different people will have different opinions on what would classify as a niche blog, at the end of the day I simply think it has to come back to you, and what you enjoy writing about. If you have a scattered mind like I tend to have, it may be really kind of hard to focus on one tiny area and remain in that box. I am certainly not saying it is not possible though, just hard. However, the best thing you can do when you are beginning a blog is continue to write. Maybe a pattern in your writing will actually develop into a niche at some point. Or, maybe you will discover a passion along the way. Just keep on pressing forward, and remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day.
